EMS
– Kapiti Emergency Medical Services
The EMS is a rapid
response unit that combines the skills and experience of both
doctors and paramedics, recognising the benefit of both
professions working together for the patients benefit.
The EMS doctors specialize in pre-hospital emergency medical and
trauma care.
The EMS covers a region that has a
population of over 50,000 people and encompasses Centennial Highway
which currently is one of the statistically worst roads in New Zealand for severe trauma and
death from motor vehicle accidents. Over 25,000 vehicles pass
along this two-lane highway per day and in 2004 eight people
died on this stretch of road and many more were critically
injured. There have been 38 fatalities in 20 years along a 10km
stretch of road that includes Centennial Highway. Two to three times
this number have been critically injured. The EMS has been
active at lobbying Transit New Zealand
to install a median barrier along the length of this notorious
highway.
The EMS
provide time critical aggressive advanced pre-hospital care in
order to resuscitate and stabilize the critically ill patient at
the scene and during the transport phase of the patients
treatment, without delaying transport to hospital facilities.
The EMS Trust is a non profit charitable
trust, and EMS
Team-members work voluntarily.

Life Education Trust
As children grow they face a number of negative influences that
can over time have an extremely negative effect changing their
desires and leading, in the worst cases, to personal and social
problems associated with poor health, low self-esteem and abuse
of people and substances.
Life Education is a non-profit organisation. We
teach health to over 200,000 primary and intermediate school
children each year. We go into schools by invitation, not by
right. We are linked into the school curriculum.
Life Education is a preventative approach. We
teach children about the wonder of life, themselves, and other
people, with the aim of showing them how to reach their full
potential. It is a totally positive approach. Life Education
does not necessarily work on changing children's behaviour, it
works on changing desires. Rather than frightening children with
various forms of scare tactics, the Life Education philosophy
focuses on creating a sensitivity to values which lead to an
understanding and appreciation of human life. This enables the
child to make decisions about any negative influences that might
impede the development of their fullest potential.
We do this by taking children on an adventure in
a mobile classroom that is equipped with sophisticated sight and
sound techniques to capture children's imaginations. Our
educators (registered teachers) take children on this journey,
along with Harold the Giraffe, our mascot. These educators are
chosen for their x-factor and together with Harold make the
journey fun as well as educational.

Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House Charities develops and
supports programmes that help children live happier, healthier
lives.
We do this by thoroughly researching and understanding the needs
of children and families in New Zealand, as well as learning
from our Ronald McDonald House Charities family around the
world.
Our programmes are not here to meet short term problems. All of
them take years to develop and all will remain in New Zealand
offering care and comfort to families for as long as families
need us.
Our principal supporter McDonald’s is as
passionate about helping children as we are, and their support
means that all donations we receive can be used exclusively for
our programme support and development.
The cornerstone project of the Charity in
New Zealand is the three Ronald McDonald Houses, one in
Auckland, one in Wellington and one in Christchurch. Each year
these Houses care for over 3,000 families of children undergoing
hospital treatment at either Auckland Starship Children's
Hospital, Wellington Hospital or Christchurch Public Hospital.
